August 23rd, 2020
Dear First Baptist members and friends,
As most of you have heard by now, our pastor, Dr. Steve Davis, announced his retirement today. We celebrate this announcement with him after twenty-five years as our pastor and friend. He has been doing ministry for over forty years, and with Natalie being a high school senior, he wants to be able to enjoy her senior year.
His last Sunday as our pastor will be November 1st, 2020. We trust that this time will be one of celebration of his ministry and wishing him the best as he begins his retirement years. Since Natalie has another year of school, we will be seeing Steve around town for sure and occasionally in worship for special services.
We ask you to respect his desire to be retired (more golf) and give him time away to be with his family.
Our church is healthy, strong, and good, and yes, we have a bright future. This time of transition will be exciting and a needed time for us to grieve and grow. First Baptist has a retirement transition plan that was approved a few years ago. That plan in included with this letter and will be sent out through Realm and the newsletter. We have great leaders in place to help carry out this transition. The plan calls for an Administrative Council to work as liaison with our staff during this time. That council, starting in September, consists of Curt Giebeig, deacon chair, Dr. Mark Albertus, deacon vice-chair, and Stacy Lawler, Personnel Committee chair.
We ask you plan to join us on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 for a celebration of Pastor Steve’s twenty-fifth anniversary, and then on November 1st, 2020 for a Celebration Sunday in honor of his retirement.
May God continue to help First Baptist be the church it has been for generations, “Caring People Sharing God’s Love.”
